The Kaduna/Katsina Command of the Nigeria Custom Service seized 16,408 bags of 50kg rice and 235 bags of 25kg rice from January to December 2016 with a duty paid value of N121.2 million.
Comptroller of the command, Mohammed Jafar Tukur said other items seized include used clothes, vegetable oil, spagetti, macroni, illicit pharmaceutical drugs, used tires with a duty paid value of over N350 million.
According to him, there is no going back on the enforcement on ban on importation of vehicle through the land border adding that the ban will enhance security by ensuring proper documentation and standadization of vehicles coming into the country.
He said, the command has mapped out new operational strategies aimed at fishing out ‘bad eggs’ among the men and officers in the command adding that ‘ aggressive sensitization will soon commence to educate and enlighten the people especially border communities on government new importation policies’
He warned smugglers to desist from their unwholesome acts by having a rethink as policies are meant to make the nation better.
