Some dealers in car spare parts on Friday dragged a 40-year-old man, Akah Lawrence, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly obtaining the sum of N867,500 under false pretence in Apapa.
Lawrence is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and false pretence. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in October 2019 at Odunade Market, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with one other at large and obtained the sum of N456,000 from one Onoh Chidozie and N411,500 from one Ude Okechukwu by luring them into contribution, knowing same to be false,” Tedunjaye said.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 314(1a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate B. A Amore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till March 31, 2020 for mention.
