The police on Thursday arraigned a dismissed soldier, Ibrahim Uba (33) before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for alleged impersonation by wearing the camouflage vest of Nigerian Army.
Uba is facing one-count charge of impersonation.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 13, 2019 at about 11:30pm at Mile 2, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant impersonated himself as a member of the Nigerian Armed Forces by wearing the Nigerian Army camouflage vest, having deserted and been dismissed from the Nigerian Army since February 2018,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 77 of Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Remilekun Ojodun granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till July 4, 2019 for mention.
