To end incessant building collapse in the country, the Building Collapse Prevention Guild has called for the return of the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) to the seaports.
Speaking to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY on Monday, the president of the guild, Kunle Awobodu said SON has to be at the port to stop imported substandard building materials from getting into the market.
Awobodu said that most imported building materials that come into Nigeria from Asian countries are substandard.
“The absence of SON at the ports has made it very challenging to check influx of substandard building materials that entered into the country through the seaports.
“These substandard building materials have led to loss of human lives and properties but should they be at the ports they would have denied some of these materials clearance hence, they won’t be in our market,” he said
