The Nigeria Customs Service generated a total of N13.169 trillion from 2010 to 2021, according to data compiled by SHIPS & PORTS.
The data shows that the NCS generated N546.64 billion in 2010; N741.83 billion in 2011; N850.88 billion in 2012 and N833.4 billion in 2013. The service also generated the sum of N977 billion in 2014; N903 billion in 2015 and N899 billion in 2016.
The annual revenue generation, however, moved into the trillion naira realm with N1.03 trillion realised in 2017; N1.2 trillion in 2018; N1.34 trillion in 2019 and N1.6 trillion in 2020.
The highest annual revenue generation by the NCS was recorded in 2021 with an unprecedented sum of N2.24 trillion.
SHIPS & PORTS reported that more than 80 per cent of the revenue generated by the Nigeria Customs Service is realised in the southwest region of the country.
The top revenue collecting commands of the NCS are Apapa, Tin Can, PTML and Murtala Muhammed Airport (cargo section), all located in Lagos.
