Man arraigned for attempting to defraud importer of N0.8m

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port
A 53-year-old man, identified as Emeka Maduekwe, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for attempting to defraud an importer, one Ukaegbu Joseph of N800,000.

The prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in September 2010 at Tin Can Island, Apapa.

Esebamen said that the defendant obtained the sum of N800,000 from Joseph under false pretence of buying a 20ft of container number TCKU: 311981/7 through auction sale which he did not do.

According to him, the offence contravened Sections 411 and 314(3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge against him.

Chief Magistrate A.O Awogboro granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the case till February 28, 2018 for mention.
