Man arraigned for stealing N7.4m from Nigerian Chamber of Shipping

A 40-year-old man, identified as Edward Obi, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly forging the signature of the President of Nigeria Chamber of Shipping and stealing N7,462,349 in Apapa.

Obi is facing a three-count charge bordering on forgery and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 5, 2019 at Nigeria Chamber of Shipping at No 2a, Azere Close, Apapa.

“The defendant forged the signatures of the President of Nigeria Chamber of Shipping, Mr Andy Isichie, and stole the Polaris Bank booklet belonging to Nigeria Chamber of Shipping,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N7,462,349 belonging to Nigeria Chamber of Shipping.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges brought against him.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till February 12, 2019 for mention.
