A 39-year-old man, Ade Philip, who was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one police officer attached to the Presidential Task Force on the restoration of order on the roads in Apapa, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Philip was slammed with a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, ASP Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 31, 2019 at about 9:15am at Sifax pin down, Ijora-Badia, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to unlawfully assault one SP Salako Adekunle, a police officer attached to Presidential Task Force, Apapa by inflicting injury on his leg with machete which caused him bodily harm.
“The defendant conducted himself in an act of violence as well as disturbing and encouraging disturbance of peace,” Ekundayo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 170, 171 and 56 (a&b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mukaila Fadeyi, ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Correctional Service until January 8, 2020 for facts and sentence.
