A 54-year-old truck driver, Adewole Ijaogbomo, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting his wife and unlawfully resisting arrest by police at Kirikiri.
Ijaogbomo is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Okosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 16, 2020 at about 8:10pm at Johnson Street, Kirikiri.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Abike Ehunwa by slapping her and pouring unknown substance on her face. He also conducted himself in a disorderly manner to cause breach of public peace by unlawfully resisting arrest and by instigating members of the public against one Sergeant Damon Uwadiale attached to Kirikiri Police Station who was acting under lawful order,” Okosun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 171 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate G.O Tiamiyu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till February 25, 2020 for mention.
