Man charged to court for allegedly stealing exporter’s N.6m

A 34-year-old man, Raphael Onyekpandu Kelechi, was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Friday for allegedly stealing the sum of N600,000 belonging to an exporter at Ijora, Apapa.

Kelechi is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Francisca Job, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in November 2019 at Ijora, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with one other at large to steal the sum of N600,000 belonging to one Alhaji Issa Alabi,” Job said.

According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till April 2, 2020 for mention.
