A 27-year-old man, identified as Sodiq Olawale, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly threatening to stab a police officer in Apapa.
Olawale is facing a three-count charge of assault, threat to stab and malicious damage of police uniform.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 21, 2019 at about 4:30pm at Idowu Junction by Wilmer, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Sergeant Ameh James attached to Trinity Division by fighting him while he was executing his lawful duty,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant threatened to stab Sergeant Ameh James with broken bottle and maliciously damaged police uniform whose value is yet to be estimated, property of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 174, 56 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Olorunfemi Oluwatope granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till August 5, 2019 for mention.
