Motorboy docked for assault

A 19-year-old motorboy, Mohammed Aliu, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting his colleague over a cigarette lighter.

Aliu is facing a one-count charge of assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 12, 2019 at about 6pm at 3-1 Hotel, Oluti, Lagos.

“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Haruna Garba with a broken bottle on his left hand side of his body which caused him bodily harm,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum by Magistrate Tolani Shekoni-Adeyekun.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till October 24, 2019 for mention.
