Motorcyclist docked for assaulting police officer

A 24-year-old motorcyclist, Annas Ibrahim, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer by pushing him down from a moving motorcycle in Lagos. 

The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 8, 2019 at about 11:35pm along Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos.

“The defendant unlawfully assaulted Inspector Kenneth Alerechi attached to Layeni Police Station by pushing him down from a moving motorcycle which caused him bodily harm,” Ekundayo said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 174 (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Ramotalai Morafa granted him N100,000 bail with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
