Police arraign two for threatening passers-by with dangerous weapons

The police on Tuesday arraigned two men before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly threatening passers-by with dangerous weapons in Lagos.

The duo, Toheeeb Sulaiman (20) and Abeeb Owoyemi (18), is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and threatening with dangerous weapons.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 8, 2019 at about 8pm at Ateboh Close, Ajegunle, Lagos.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to threaten passers-by with dangerous weapons,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

Magistrate Ramot Ayilara granted them N50,000 bail with one surety each in like sum.

Each surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of one year tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till January 15, 2020 for mention.
