The Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC) has carried out a sensitisation program for port service providers and users on online payments.
Speaking during the program held on Wednesday at the NSC headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, the Executive Secretary/CEO Chief Executive Officer of the Council, Barr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, represented by Director, Consumer Affairs Department, Cajetan Agu, noted that at inception, payments to the council were done manually but that this has now been automated.
He said that the benefits of registering with NSC and making applicable fees online include getting adequate information from the council, “eradication of faceless shippers, knowledge about the types of fees payable at the port and also to know the customers more”.
He emphasised that it is compulsory for port service providers and users to register with the council.
Also speaking at the event, Assistant Director, Consumer Affairs of NSC, Celestine Akujobi, said the council will withdraw its services from those that do not register and pay appropriate fees to it.
He noted that multinational service providers have registered and paid applicable fees to the council while most Nigerian operators have not.
