The Comptroller General, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Hameed Ali, has said that Nigerians are eating expired foreign rice re-bagged and smuggled into the country.
Ali, who spoke on Wednesday at the Customs Area 2 Command, Onne, Rivers state, said that importers of foreign rice polish and re-bag it for unsuspecting consumers to buy.
He said Customs must reach out to Nigerians through the press to make them know the deadly effect of what they are consuming.
“We are consuming expired rice. When it causes cancer, we begin to find who to blame. All those things they are bringing into the country are aimed at bringing us at our knees but we will surely overcome them.

On the closure of Nigeria’s border, Ali stated that the country would be able to realise its deficiencies and tackle them once and for all, adding that Nigerians must make sacrifices for the nation’s industries to grow.
