A Federal Government delegation to the restive Niger Delta led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday visited Gbaramatu Kingdom, a hotbed of renewed militancy in the region.
Osinbajo, who arrived Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in a Nigerian Navy helicopter, just after 12pm went immediately to pay a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler of Gbaramatu Kingdom.
The Vice President’s arrival was heralded by wide jubilation as women, youths and children welcomed him with various dances by different groups.
After being welcomed at the palace of the traditional ruler, Osinbajo and other members of the delegation comprising Governor Ifeanyi Okowa; Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, and Ijaw traditional rulers held a meeting behind closed doors.
The meeting lasted for about 30 minutes after which the delegation was led to the pavilion where thousands of Ijaw indigenes were waiting to have a session with the members.
