A female passenger of Carnival Elation fell on Friday morning from her balcony to several decks below while the ship was underway on a four-day cruise to the Bahamas.
“The ship’s medical team responded immediately, but, unfortunately, she passed away.
“The incident was reported to all proper authorities and CARE Team support was offered to fellow travelers and her family. Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and her family,” a statement from the Carnival Cruise Line reads.
The cause of the incident is yet to be determined as an investigation into what led to the fall is underway.
Fantasy-class cruise ship Carnival Elation departed Jacksonville on January 18 on a four-day cruise to the Bahamas.
The Panama-flagged cruise ship, built in 1998, is currently moored in Jacksonville, based on its latest AIS data.
A similar incident occurred on board Carnival Elation less than a year ago when a passenger went overboard on February 13 while the cruise ship was sailing 14 nautical miles northeast of Great Harbor Cay in the Bahamas.
At the time of the incident, the cruise ship was transiting from Jacksonville to her first port of call in Nassau, Bahamas.
