Police arraign 70-year-old beggar for obstruction at Tin Can

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud

A 70-year-old man, identified as Amani Ali, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obstructing a police officer from executing his lawful duty at PTML Police Post, Tin Can Island.

The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 7, 2018 at about 2pm at PTML Police Post, Tin Can Island.

The defendant and others at large reportedly obstructed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Roro Division and his team from carrying out their lawful duty.

The alleged offences contravene sections 117 and 174 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

A witness in the court said the defendant is physically challenged and is a beggar.

Upon the non-guilty plea by the defendant, the Magistrate S.O Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N5,000 with one surety.

He adjourned the matter till January 10, 2019 for mention.
