The Police on Tuesday arraigned a 32-year-old staff of the Lagos Neighborhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Sunday Abiodun, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging 11 tankers belonging to members of Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) in Lagos.
Abiodun is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, willful and unlawful damage.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 1, 2018 at about 7pm at Buba Maruwa Road, Ijegun Egba, Satellite Town, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to wilfully and unlawfully cause damages to the windscreens and side glasses of 11 petroleum tankers belonging to members of NUPENG, Ijegun Egba Depot Branch with intent to render them useless valued above N1.5 million,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant with others at large, conducted themselves in a disorderly manner by unlawfully causing damages to the windscreens and side glasses of 11 petroleum tankers belonging to members of NUPENG, Ijegun Egba Depot Branch.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 351(d) and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till December 6, 2018 for mention.
