Police arraign man for stealing N40,000 phone inside church

The police on Friday arraigned a 33-year-old man, Collins Nwadike, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a N40,000 phone inside a church premises in Lagos.

Nwadike is facing a two-count charge of felony and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 16, 2019 at about 10am at the Catholic Church of Visitation, 1st Avenue Road, Festac Town, Lagos.

“The defendant attempted to commit felony by stealing one Infinx Hot 5 phone valued at N40,000 property of one Ifeanyi Bernard,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 21 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate A.S Okubule granted him N40,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till August 5, 2019 for mention.
