Visa agent docked for N380,000 theft

A 35-year-old visa agent, Unity Igweh Ali, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N380,000 meant to procure visa in Lagos.

Ali is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 22, 2019 at about 10:30pm at First Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to fraudulently collect the sum of N380,000 from one Evelyn George with the pretence to get visa at Festac Town, knowing same to be false,” Onaiwu said.

According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Magistrate Olukayode Kadiri granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till August 7, 2019 for mention.
