Police arraign truck driver for dangerous driving in Apapa

A truck driver, identified as Ahmed Buba was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving dangerously along Oshodi/Apapa expressway.

Buba is facing a four-count charge bothering on driving without driver’s licence, reckless driving, obstruction and careless driving.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 5, 2018 at about 10:15am along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway.

“The defendant being the driver in charge of one Iveco Truck with registration number LSD 381 XT drove same on the Public Highway and caused obstruction to other road users,” Inedu said.

The prosecutor added that the defendant drove the same truck in a reckless, dangerous, careless and inconsiderate manner.

Inedu also said that the defendant failed to produce driver’s licence.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 40(3), 18, 19 and 7(1) of Road Traffic Laws 2012.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

Magistrate T.O Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety. The surety according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till July 23, 2018 for mention.
