Truck driver accused of stealing N150,000 from importer

A 39-year-old truck driver, Nurudeen Balogun was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N150,000 from an importer in Apapa.

Balogun is facing a two-count charge bothering on false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 16, 2018 at about 2:20pm at Creek Road, Apapa.

“The defendant obtained the sum of N150,000 from one Mrs Ashabi Matimiloju with the pretence to transport one container from Apapa to Sango-Otta, Ogun State, knowing same to be false,” Inedu said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314(1) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate T.O Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties according to the Magistrate must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till July 23, 2018 for mention.
