Police arraigns 45-year old for possession of illicit drugs

An Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos on Friday remanded a 45-year-old man, Michael Igwe, for having illicit drugs in his possession.

The prosecutor, Inspector Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 23, 2019 at about 11pm at No 304, Premier Hotel, Old Ojo Road, Satellite, Lagos.

“The defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by going into the hotel bar with some drugs suspected to be Refnol and some dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp with which he intended to lure the girls in the hotel,” Perezi said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed, furnish the court with six months bank statements and proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till May 20, 2019 for mention.
