The police on Monday arraigned five teenagers and one man before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly damaging packed vehicles, windscreens and side glasses in Apapa.
The five teenagers are Toheeb Ismaihi (18), Toheeb Alabi (19), Olowe Rilwan (19), Dominic Ikoko (19), Ibrahim Rasaq (18) and one man identified as Azeez Muritala (24).
They are facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, possession of dangerous weapons, stealing and malicious damage.
The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 30, 2019 at about 11:30pm at Ezeagu Street and Oyedeji Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with others at large to threaten passerby with dangerous weapons. They were found in possession of cutlass, knife, sticks, broken bottles which when questioned, they could not give satisfactory account of how they came about them,” Salami said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants disposed passerby of their bags containing handsets, wrist watch, documents whose total value are yet to be estimated.
Salami also said that the defendants maliciously damaged parked vehicles, windscreens and side glasses, the total value of which is yet to be estimated, along Ezeagu, Itire and Ojo Road.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 56, 329, 280 and 339 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate A.R Morafa granted the defendants bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties each in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till June 11, 2019 for mention.
