Security guard docked for assaulting woman in Apapa

A security guard, identified as Kelechi Mgbemele, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one woman by beating her up with wood in Apapa.

Mgbemele is facing a two-count charge of assault and threat.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 23, 2019 along Sunrise Bridge in Apapa.

“The defendant assaulted one Mrs Eldoo Jimoh by beating her up with 2 by 2 wood and inflicted injury on her body. He also threatened to kill her,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 171 and 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Adegboyega Popoola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till October 4, 2019 for trial.
