Fake customs agent swindles job-seeker of N450,000 in Apapa

A 34-year-old customs agent, Olarewaju Saheed, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly swindling a job-seeker of N450,000 in Apapa.

Saheed is facing a two-count charge bordering on false pretence and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obonagha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 30, 2018 at about 8am at Amukoko, Apapa.

“The defendant obtained the sum of N450,000 from one Iyabo Adewole with intent to give her employment in the port knowing same to be false,” Obonagha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N450,000 property of one Iyabo Adewole.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314(1)(a) and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till January 28, 2019 for mention.
