With its Board of Trustees election around the corner, the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has flagged off electioneering process into elective offices of its National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to a notice signed by Chairman of the Association Electoral Commission (ASECO), Alhaji Babatunde Abdulazeez, the tenure of the present NEC led by Prince Olayiwola Shittu expires April 16, 2014.
“The Association Electoral Commission (ASECO) hereby wishes to announce the authorization of campaign and electioneering process to all elective offices of National Executive Committee of ANLCA” Abdulazeez stated.
He said that the flag off of the NEC electioneering process is in consonance with ANLCA Constitution Provisions under Section 22 (2b) which states that “in case of the National Executive Committee, the Chairman of ASECO shall by a publication made 3 months before the expiration of the National Officer’s tenure, lift ban for campaign into the various offices.”
Meanwhile, the ANLCA National President has charged members of the association to study the Nigeria Customs Service website frequently and make it an advisory tool on classification and valuation matters.
Shittu, at the association’s eastern zone meeting held in Port Harcourt last Thursday, said that if cultivated as a habit this will help keep them abreast with customs related matters especially in determining the actual duty rate payable of their importers’ consignment.
He also reiterated the need for them to take pictures of examined goods such that they will be used as evidence if the need arises
