South Africa’s trade surplus eased to 4 billion rand ($283 million) in September from a revised 5.98 billion rand surplus in August as exports fell, data from the revenue agency showed on Tuesday.
Exports dropped by 1.6 percent to 101.76 billion rand on a month-on-month basis in September, while imports inched up 0.4 percent to 97.76 billion rand, the South African Revenue Service said in a statement.
On a cumulative basis the trade balance between January and September was at a 47.12 billion rand surplus compared to a 6.66 billion rand shortfall over the same period in 2016.
