Truck driver in court for stealing iron at Navy dockyard

A 55-year-old truck driver, Ganiyu Adisa was arraigned on Tuesday before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly stealing 55 pieces of iron rods belonging to Chinese Construction Company.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbonna told the court that the defendant committed the offence on October 21, 2017 at about 10pm at the Navy Dockyard in Apapa, Lagos.

Ogbonna said the defendant stole fifty-five pieces of iron whose value is yet to be known.

According to him, the offence contravened Section 281 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Investigation Police Office, Sergeant Zakari Suleiman told the court that the stolen items were recovered from the accused.

Adisa, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge against him.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till November 28, 2017 for mention.
