A 23-year-old truck driver, Azeez Wahab, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly assaulting one Chukwuemeka David in a police cell.
Wahab is facing a one-count charge of assault.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 21, 2019 at about 10:30am at Amukoko Divisional police cell.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Chukwuemeka David by giving him fist blow twice on his nose and caused him bodily harm,” Inedu said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate T.R Oladele granted him N5,000 bail with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till December 6, 2019 for mention.
