Truck driver in court for manslaughter

Man steals vital documents, laptop from Naval officer
A 23-year-old truck driver, Lanre Mustapha, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of one Tunde Adeniyi at Tin Can Island, Apapa.

Mustapha is facing a two-count charge bordering on traffic offences and manslaughter.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 19, 2018 at about 4:30pm along Tin Can Island, Second Gate, Apapa.

“The defendant being the driver in charge of Man Diesel Truck with registration number GGE 917 XA, did drive same vehicle on the public highway in a dangerous and reckless manner and caused the death of one Tunde Adeniyi, having regard to all the circumstances of the case,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove same vehicle on the public highway and caused accident.

According to him, the offences are punishable under Law No 4 Sections 18 and 19 Vol 45 Lagos State Traffic Law 2012.

Following the non-guilty plea of the defendant, the Magistrate, K. A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and not self-employed.

She adjourned the case till November 26, 2018 for Directorate of Public Prosecution’s (DPP) advice.
