Truck driver gets N.2m bail for traffic offences

A 40-year-old truck driver identified as Ali Musa was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences and granted bail for N200,000.

Musa is facing a three-count charge of driving dangerously, causing obstruction and driving against oncoming vehicles (one-way).

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvelous Ogbongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 4, 2018 at about 8am along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

“The defendant, being the driver in charge of Mack Truck with registration number DLA 42 XX, drove same vehicle on the public highway in a manner which was reckless and dangerous to the public,” he said.

Ogbongha added that the defendant drove same vehicle on the public highway in a direction prohibited by the Road Traffic Law and caused obstruction.

According to him, the offences are punishable under Lagos State Traffic Law No. 4, Vol. 45, (9)(1) Laws of Lagos State 2012.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate O.M Ajayi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two responsible sureties.

She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government. ‎

Ajayi adjourned the case till October 24, 2018 for mention.
