Truck manager, driver docked for N575,000 theft

A 30-year-old truck manager, Onyeka Nnoli Callistus and a 45-year-old truck driver, Ogbonna Okechukwu, were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N575,000 at Apapa.

The duo is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, false pretence and stealing.

The port prosecutor, Inspector Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 14, 2019 at Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together with others at large to obtain the sum of N575,000 from one Igwe Samuel Prince under the false pretence to convey 1x40ft container number SUDU 486846(4) containing iron from Apapa port to Festac, Lagos. The defendants converted the said amount to their personal use,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314(3) and 287(5b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

The Chief Magistrate, Mukaila Fadeyi, granted them N200,000 bail with one surety each in like sum. Each surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till January 13, 2020 for mention.
