Two men, Doyin Stanley (23) and Ibraheem Jubril (30) pleaded guilty to vandalizing a black Toyota Corolla car at the Tin Can Island Port Complex before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and vandalization.
The port prosecutor, Inspector Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January 8, 2020 at about 8:30pm at Enforcement Unit of Nigeria Customs Service, Tin Can Island Port.
“The defendants conspired together and attempted to commit stealing by vandalizing one black Toyota Corolla car parked in front of customs office at Tin Can Island Port,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate B.M Amore adjourned the case till February 4, 2020 for facts and sentence.
Jubril attempts to escape from custody
Meanwhile, there was a mild drama at the Court on when one of the suspects, Ibraheem Jubril, attempted to escape from the custody of the prison warder at the court premises.
An eye witness, who gave her name as Toyin, said that while the suspect was urinating, he jumped over the fence to escape from being in prison custody.
“I saw two suspects with an officer approaching the prison section of the court. Not too long, one of the suspects went to urinate close to the fence.
“Meanwhile, I told the officer to put an eye on him because I suspected some funny moves as the suspect was observing the environment. Before you could say Jack Robinson, the suspect jumped the fence and ran away. Immediately, some prison officers and policemen went in search of him. Luckily, he was found,” Toyin narrated.
