Eight men allegedly assault police officer at Tin Can port

Eight men were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a police officer at Tin-Can Port.

The eight men are Kenneth Alinca (48), Eno Peter (28), Yakubu Atiba (48), Waris Olubode (19), Ossai Uche (19), Samsideen Aliu (30), Muyideen Akeem (44), and Chuks Odile (59). They are facing a seven-count charge bothering on conspiracy, breach of peace, assault, riot and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Feddy Asu told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 9, 2018 at about 5:30pm at Coconut Bus Stop, Olodi-Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace in a disorderly manner as to disturb the peace of the entire area,” Asu said.

Asu added that the defendants unlawfully assaulted one CPL, Oyerinde Oluwaseyi attached to Trinity Police Station by beating him up with fist blow while performing his lawful duty.
The prosecutor also said the defendants unlawfully tore police uniform, properties of Nigeria Police Force and stole one Infinix Hot 3 valued at N35,000, property of one CPL Oluwaseyi.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 57, 174, 44(1)(4), 45(2), 339(1) and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Magistrate Muikalia Fadeyi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety each. The surety according to the

Magistrate must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.The surety should also produce six months bank statement.

He adjourned the case till July 30, 2018 for mention.
