Two security guards docked for stealing oil worth N225,000

Two security guards were yesterday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 600 litres of hydraulic oil from MRS Oil and Gas company crane tank, Tin Can Island Port, Apapa.

The security guards were Hamzat Ganiyu, 32 and Mark Ledgent, 45. Both pleaded not guilty to the two-count charges bothering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendants committed the offence from 7pm of June 2, 2017 to 6am of June 3, 2017 at the company’s premises.

He said the defendants were Koole Security Guard attached to MRS Oil and Gas Company with the duty of securing the vessel and company crane. However, they conspired to steal 600 litres of hydraulic oil from company crane tank valued N225, 000.

The Magistrate, Mr T.A Babalola granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till July 10, 2017 for mention.
