The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) today joined other affiliate unions of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to enforce a nationwide strike at the seaports.
The indefinite strike was called to protest the battering of the NLC President, Joe Ajaero, and some other executives of the congress in Owerri, Imo State, on November 1, as well as the pending labour issues in Imo State.
SHIPS & PORTS correspondents in Apapa, Tin-Can, Port Harcourt and Onne ports report that the facilities are all under lock and key in compliance with the strike action.
Trucks were seen stranded on the port access roads as they were not allowed into the port.
Clearing agents and some port officials were also seen milling around the port gate but could not gain entrance.
