A police officer attached to the Marine Command in Lagos, has lost his mobile telephone handset to “suspected thieves”.

Christopher Ebihabam who was reportedly sleeping on duty at his post in Ikoyi, Lagos said he was “actually dozing” only to wake up and find his phone missing.

“I was actually dozing before I woke up I couldn’t set my eyes on my phone again,” he said.

It was a hilarious scene to behold when SHIPS & PORTS visited the Marine Command headquarters to verify information only to run into the missing phone drama.

“Do you know you can be issued a query for what you just did? You were sleeping while on duty, that is too bad of you,” an officer superior in rank to Ebihabam was heard telling the bewildered officer.

The Marine Command is a branch of ‘B’ Department of the Nigeria Police Force. The section has eight-one marine stations and outpost spread across the length and breadth of the inland navigable rivers and waterways in the country.

The waterways have, however, become replete with the abduction of travellers. Last week, eight travellers including five officials of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) were abducted along the Kula-Abomema River in Rivers State.
