A 28-year-old woman, Oluwadamilola Abikoye, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N246,000 under the pretence to supply charcoal.
Abikoye is facing a three-count charge of fraud, false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in May 2019 at No 5, Amusan Street, Alaba Oro, Amukoko.
“The defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N246,000 from one Ibrahim Salaudeen with the intent to supply him charcoal knowing same to be false,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N246,000 from one Ibrahim Salaudeen which has deprived him from the use of his money.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314(1)(a), 285 and 340 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against her.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted her N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till August 28, 2019 for mention.
