Women making waves in the maritime industry

Nigeria @59: Stakeholders speak on state of maritime industry

Women are gradually taking their rightful positions in the maritime industry with more of them taking up seafaring careers and other respectable profession callings in the maritime industry.

In Nigeria, it gladdens the heart to note that more women getting involved in decision and policy making, advocacy and many other areas in the maritime industry. The country now boasts of women ship captains, marine engineers, marine pilots, charterers, brokers, port managers, chief executives of port terminals,

This development shows that Nigeria’s maritime women are poised to hold their own and make a difference in the maritime industry by challenging old-fashioned ideas and cultures that restrict the female gender to the background.

One cannot but encourage more women to work hard at their callings to carve a niche for themselves especially in a male dominated industry like maritime. Women, especially our young ladies, must understand that what is between their ears is more important than what is between their legs.
