2 dead as Customs clash with indigenes in Ondo community

Police arrests 7 Customs officers for killing woman

Two persons, including one Customs officer, have reportedly died in a clash that erupted between officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and suspected smugglers in Saki, Oyo State.

The Customs men were said to have been chasing a suspected smuggler said to be an indigene of Saki.

The suspected smuggler was said to have been killed – an incident that drew the ire of other indigenes, who reportedly attacked the Customs officers.

The monarch of the town, Oba Khalid Olabisi, reportedly intervened in the ensuing chaos but his intervention did little to save the situation.

Customs officials have lately been accused of using firearms in busy areas while purportedly chasing smugglers in the southwest area of the country, leading to several fatalities of unarmed innocent citizens.
