7 things you didn’t know about Sylvester Egede, new Tin Can Port Manager

Sylvester Othuke Egede was last week named as the substantive Port Manager of the Tin Can Island Port Complex, Lagos.

Egede takes over from Akin Leoso who has held the position in acting capacity since November 2023 after the retirement of the former Port Manager, Jubril Buba.

Below are seven things you might not know about the new Tin Can Port Manager:

  • He is popularly called ‘Sly’ by his friends and colleagues.
  • He obtained a B. Sc. (Geography) degree from the University of Jos in 1990 and M.Sc. (Transport Planning) from Lagos State University in 1998.
  • He served as Traffic Manager at Rivers Port, Port Harcourt (2016 to 2021); Kirikiri Lighter Terminal, Lagos (2021 to August 2023) and Lagos Port Complex Apapa (August 2023 to January 2023).
  • He was Manager, Traffic Operations Coordinator, National Integrated Power Project, NPA project unit from 2006 to 2012.
  • He served as Personal Assistant to the Executive Director, Marine and Operations of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) from 2012 to 2016.
  • He served as Secretary to the Implementation Committee of ISPS Code from 2001 to 2004.
  • He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistic and Transport.
