A 52-year-old man, Segun Husseini Adekanbi, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing one boat engine and two dozen of life jackets valued at N870,000 in Apapa.
Adekanbi is facing a one-count charge of stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector James Okosun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between December 2019 and January 2020 at No 12 Marine Road, Apapa.
“The defendant stole one 40 horse power Yamaha outboard engine valued at N800,000 and two dozen of life jackets valued at N70,000 properties of Marine Equipment and Oil Supply,” Okosun said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate G.O Tiamiyu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with responsible sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till February 25, 2020 for mention.
