The Lagos Railway District Manager, Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engr. Jerry Oche, says one person was killed and several injured when a passenger train derailed early Thursday morning.
The train was heading to Ebute Metta from Ogun State when the incident occurred at Mangoro along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway in Lagos at 7.15 am.
Officials said the train derailed as a result of faulty tracks at the level crossing which were to be repaired tonight following concern raised by the officials of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA).
The injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, eyewitnesses said.
General Manager of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Adesina Tiamiyu who confirmed the incident to reporters said the situation is under control.
