APM Terminals Mumbai, a part of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), has become the first Indian container terminal to handle more than 2 million TEU in a calendar year.
According to a statement by the company, this is also a first for the terminal since it was commissioned in 2006.
The news follows another record set at an APM Terminals facility this week, with the Pier 400 Los Angeles terminal in the Port of Los Angeles handling 27,846 TEU during the unloading and reloading of a Maersk megaship.
Supported by growing volumes of containerized imports and exports, APM Terminals Mumbai has projected that it will maintain growth momentum in the next few years.
The terminal has embraced digitization to manage rapidly-changing trade dynamics and increase efficiency, as well as supporting India’s Ease-of-Doing-Business initiative.
Commenting on the record achievement, the Chief Operating Officer of APM Terminals Mumbai, Ravi Gaitonde, said, “I am very proud of all our employees, contractors and frontline workforce who have all worked as a team to achieve this record performance.
