A 33-year-old man identified as Oluchukwu Ajinowu was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N500,000 under pretence to purchase a car.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 2018 at about 11am at Satellite Town, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with others with the intent to defraud, obtained the sum of N500,000 that he was going to purchase her (name withheld) a Nissan Jeep for the purpose of mobility which he knew to be false,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by raising abusive words.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314(1)(a) and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
She adjourned the case till May 20, 2019 for mention.
