Clearing agent docked for stealing N450,000 from importer

A 33-year-old clearing agent, Lucky Alumola, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N450,000 from an importer.

Alumola is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Fred Asu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 7, 2018 at about 8am at Wharf Road, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal the sum of N450,000 property of one Patience Nwaosa,” Asu said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.

Magistrate M.O Olubi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties were required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till September 30, 2019 for mention.
