Clearing agent docked for N250,000 fraud

A 35-year-old clearing agent, Thompson Ayetola was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N250,000 cash on false pretext to supply 20ft container.

Ayetola is facing a-one count charge of fraud.

The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on August 20, 2016 at Ijora Badia, Apapa, Lagos.

Ejembi said, “The defendant fraudulently obtain a cash sum of N250,000 from one Kazeem Yussuff with pretext to supply him one 20ft container knowing fully to be false.”

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 314(3) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

However the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The Magistrate, O.M Ajayi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till June 13, 2018 for mention.
